Aviatrix (2012)

Aviatrix (2012)

Aviatrix is a vertical dance solo created by Kate Lawrence for the exterior wall of Venue Cymru for the Big Dance celebrations and in association with the Adain Avion Olympic project. It was commissioned by Venue Cymru in Llandudno and Conwy County Council.

Danced by Lisa Spaull, Aviatrix is inspired by Amelia Earhart who became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic when she landed in Wales in 1928 – but disappeared less than 10 years later during another intrepid adventure. The solo was performed to a live feed of Bach Cello Suite No.3 in C Major played live by Roberto Sorrentino inside the fuselage of the Adain Avion DC-9 airplane (Adain Avion).
